The SR 191 Curve Straightening Project is intended to reduce the number and severity of collisions within this segment of highway by increasing curve radii, widening shoulders, improving the vertical profile, and improving the clear recovery area. The project is slated to commence on May 1st. Our original request, submitted on March 16th, was rejected because the County did not believe the SR191 curve straightening project contributed to public safety in the region. Since that time we were able to to discuss the intent of the project with CalTrans and we also clarified that we would only need an extension of truck loading and hauling hours and not full mining operations. We believe our permit language allows us to make this request to the Board of Supervisors and we hope County staff will move forward with processing this request. Please let us know if we can provide any additional information that would assist the County in processing our request. Thank you for your time.
