RE: Financial Assurance Cost Estimate Review – Pentz Pit (CA MINE ID # 91-04-0001)
Dear Ms. Mapel:
On January 20, 2014, Butte County received the 2014-2015 Financial Assurance Cost Estimate for the
Pentz Pit. The estimate calculated reclamation costs in the amount of $506,831.28. The latest annual
mine inspection report indicates the total disturbance area of the mine site to be approximately 122
acres. Based on the number of acres disturbed at the site, reclamation costs are estimated to be
approximately $4,154 per acre.
Staff has reviewed the cost estimate for adequacy of third-party reclamation of the mine in accordance
with the mine’s approved reclamation plan. Based on this review, Butte County certifies the estimate as
adequate to complete reclamation of the site. Pursuant to Public Resources Code, Section 2774(d)(1),
the enclosed estimate is being submitted to your office for a 45-day review and comment.
